A Year in Review

Tyler Carlson

This edition of Currents marks a full year of our newly designed magazine dedicated to everything local. From articles on Mohave Electric Cooperative (MEC) and community events and programs to local advertising and business spotlights. We hope you enjoyed the magazine as much as we enjoyed gathering all the content for you. We look forward to another year of great local content!

Here are a few highlights from 2024:

  • Scott Davis, and his magic show Making Accidents Disappear, captivated his young audiences and explained how to be aware of electrical hazards as well as how to behave around them by demonstrating that electricity is a tool, just like a hammer or saw.
  • 6 students were selected, through a competitive process, and attended the Washington D.C. Youth Tour this past June. The week-long excursion allowed these students to interact with other students from all over the country, visit our Capitol’s landmarks, and learn about our country’s extensive history.
  • MEC continues to support members in saving money with programs such as Operation Cool Shade. Shading the wall of a home can lower the outside temperature and therefore lower your energy costs. We had record sales and sold out of the 2,100 trees within 2 weeks.

Purchased Power Adjustor (PPA) Reduced to 0¢

I’m happy to share with you that the MEC Board of Directors has approved to reduce the Purchased Power Adjustor (PPA) to 0¢. Members will begin to see the 0¢ PPA starting on December 6 member bills.

This past year, members have seen the PPA as high as 2¢ and as low as 1¢, and I informed you we would continue to monitor the stability in energy costs, with our new battery resources and the cost of power, to be able to reduce the PPA even further. More info on the PPA is available on our website.

From the staff, board members, and management at MEC, I would like to wish everyone a happy and prosperous New Year.
